Library
The Scientific Library of the Institute of Oriental Studies was established in 1993. The library’s collection was curated through the consolidation of books on Oriental studies from various reputable institutions, including the Potebnia Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Ukrainian Archeography of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Far East Charitable Foundation, the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, the Embassy of India in Ukraine, the Turkish Historical Society, the Turkish Linguistic Society, the State Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Centre for the Formation of Library and Information Resources of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, Naukova Dumka Publishing House, Akademperiodyka Publishing House, and contributions from individuals such as Marko Antonovych, Mykola Miroshnychenko, Serhiy Nikishenko, and others.
Presently, the main collection of the library comprises over 9,000 books spanning the history, language, religion, philosophy, politics, economics, and art of the East. These resources are available not only in Ukrainian and over European languages but also in various Oriental languages, such as Arabic, Persian, Japanese, Chinese, Turkish, Vietnamese, Korean, and others. Furthermore, the library maintains a diverse selection of periodicals, along with texts and abstracts of doctoral and PhD theses defended at the Institute.

The library hosts a collection of books once owned by Ahatanhel Krymskyi (circa 200 volumes), along with his archive containing family photos and copies or originals of documents pertaining to his life and scientific endeavors.
A significant portion of the library’s holdings is dedicated to old printed books, totaling 35 volumes, with the oldest dating back to 1596.
The library welcomes visitors on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 to 16:30. To access and utilize the library’s collections, visitors must present a letter from their place of work or study, formally requesting permission, along with a valid identity document.
